Japanese American Community Cultural Center- Japanese Garden
The JACCC was founded in 1980 and is the largest Japanese American Cultural center in the U.S. There are many civic and arts organizations at this center. It also serves as the cultural and community focal point of Japanese Americans throughout Southern California.
Go For Broke monument- North side of MOCA and Japanese American National Museum
The go for broke monument recognizes the Japanese Americans that fought in the United States army in WWII
Ellison Onizuka monument- Weller Court
This is a statue of the Space Shuttle Challenger. On January 28, 1986, the Challenger exploded just 73 seconds after lifting off. The 7 astronauts that made the shuttle crew died in the explosion. This statue is part of the memorial to one of Challengers crew, Colonel Ellison S. Onizuka. Ellison Onizuka was the first Asian-American to venture into space.
